Hey all.

My 1st post is a question. I bought a 87 250x and it was built buy four stroke tech and has some after market parts. But I need help with the a-arms. They do not look like anything I have seen before.

Do you think they are home made?

What are your thoughts? Need more pics?

Thanks!!

Thanks for the welcomes! :icon_ peace:

Yeah I have no clue who the owner/modder was at the time. The guy I bought it from didn't either.

Just thought someone might be like, "hey those are from _____"

So what do I do now? Measure my shocks eye to eye and find some arms to fit?

Thanks!

i would start by finding out what the stock arms are for that quad..getting a measurment of the length and comparing it to what you have..looks like the shock mounts are a reweld..leading you believe there a longer arm.i`m goin thru the same thing..my previous owner/hacker put 300ex arms on a 400ex..

I don't know what kind they are, but by looking at the top arm, they look like they have an adjustment for camber.

I did not even notice that, thanks! I have not looked real close at everything yet.

So I measured the Works shocks on it and they are 13" eye to eye. I have always had a stock 250x or 300ex. So this mod stuff is new to me.

Any ideas on how to make it right? I would like to keep the aftermarket shocks. Should I leave them, or buy some a-arms? Not sure where to look even. I have a Durablue axle on the back which is wider then stock (where do you measure from?) so I do not want to go back to stock a-arms up front. Maybe the homebuilt ones are ok?

If its a durablue +2 +4 axle you can put stock 400ex a-arms on it and it wont look like the back is way wider. Stock 400s are a +2 in the front if your still running stock rim offset. But for your shocks you may need a diamondjcustoms shock conversion kit.

As for your "ghetto" a-arms the top ones look like houser racing ones judging by the camber adjusters. and then they ***** rigged the bottoms to work with them. I dunno if i personally would trust someone elses welding skills with my wheel not flying off at high speed. Just a my opinion. Hard to tear it up on your honda when your in a neck brace!

Thanks every one for the welcome!

I think I will double inspect them to be sure, kinda makes me nervouse. Maybe I'll strip them while I'm at it.

So I have heard good and bad about the 400ex switch. I have done some searching but it;s bits and pieces here and there. No good tutorials.

Thanks again everyone!:icon_ rocker:

I havent found anything bad about the 300ex 400ex switch. Breaklines work everything works fine. I dont bottom out when launching 30 or 40 foot doubles. And thats about it. Im just running the stock 400ex front shocks. They are alittle "pogo sticky" but its sweet when you come off a jump you just rip on it and the front end comes up and holds there on mine.

Thanks for the heads up on this, it might be my best "fix" for now. So why does everyone use the 400ex shocks? are they a different size? I would like to keep my shocks now.

The plot thickens.

I was doing some more checking and noticed the swing arm has been altered as well. Check out the photos. It was cut and re-welded.

I have been out of riding for a few years, and I got a little sloppy in checking before I bought. My fault. I just want to fix it so it's safe. I think it would be tuff to re-sale the way it is now.

Is it common for reverse and 1st gear to be taken out of a 250x motor for racing?

And check out my carb...I think its from a dirtbike???
