Hi all, This will be the first time I am taking the ATV's out hunting with me and will be leaving them unattended though will try and conceal them somewhat. How do you guys prevent folks from messing with them?

Obviously will be taking the keys , Cable lock through the wheels?

Thanks for any suggestions

Wow...if there's that much traffic where you're hunting, and you can't secure it by just removing the key, you're hunting in the wrong place. I leave mine on the trailer, hooked to my truck, with the keys in both...though I don't hunt on public land.

Actually not much if any traffic in the area I typically hunt, I was just curious if you guys had any unique ideas for securing them. I have camo covers for them and will park them off the trail a bit and pull they key. I'm new to ATV's in general so just looking for ideas. I hadn't thought much about leaving them at camp un-attended so I'll pick up a couple cables as mentioned earlier.

Thanks

Well, he might be hunting in the hood. Come back to find the machine up on blocks. ;)

But, what ever makes you feel better, cause you're the one who has to live with it and a few bucks for peace of mind is worth it.

Set up a trail cam wherever you park at. Maybe if someone steals it, you would, at least, have their picture. Of course, they would probably steal the camera too, if they found it. LOL.

I'm going back up there this weekend to get the 3 trailcams I do have out there.. setting one up might be a thought lol.. I'm sure they will be fine. I've never used an ATV while hunting before and it sounds like I am being overly paranoid.

Thanks again

The only thing I would worry about is a gun wound to the quad. My Grandfather was out on his property hunting one year. He let random family members hunt there. They all parked in the same spot and somebody managed to shoot his truck. How nobody knows. Nobody ever admitted to shooting that direction. Somebody that should of not been hunting probly shot it. It was his old better truck any how and it hit the bed side.

You are very right. I read an artical a few years back about somebody shooting a 9MM in the air and it shot somebody a few blocks away. I do not remember all the details but I beleive they were kids at that. DUMB!!! In alot of ways.

Some folks don't understand the concept of what goes up must come down, and at pretty much the same velocity. Don't you just love the folks that think shooting their firearms off for holidays in the city is cool!!!!!!!

I thought a lot about this comment, and while I agree with it to an extent, I do think deterrents help. It’s sort of like the argument that copy protection doesn’t prevent “warez”...the illegal copying of software, and therefore it only hurts the honest customers. I don’t agree with that.

Thieves will always find a way around deterrents, but if you can prevent the casual thief from stealing then you’ve weeded out a big group of people who want to steal your stuff.

Will you prevent all theft? No. But, not doing anything will prevent no theft. Doing something will prevent some theft, so you're better off doing something rather than nothing.
