I have a 2016 Honda rancher es 420. I think I wired the winch wrong and now I am getting battery drain. can someone tell me the correct way to wire my winch. I think this is the problem because I can operate winch with key off. thanks.

What brand and model of winch? Most companies give thorough installation instructions although you might have to go to their web site to download them.

I am sure I threw them away. I did it last year. I don't use it much. but I am tired of charging it. I will have to look at the winch and see what brand it is. I disconnected it today and I am charging the battery to be sure that is the problem. thanks

Winch to solenoid, solenoid to battery, preferably with an isolation switch in the live wire between battery and solenoid. Then you should have 3 smaller wires from the solenoid, these go to your control switch, usually the middle is 'live in' and the left & right are direction.
This only applies for a 'stand alone' solenoid, if you have a solenoid attached to your winch then it should be ready to go once wired to a battery.

Hi: You should be using a battery tender connected the battery at all times when the bike is not being used. The bike draws a small amount of current from the battery when not being used.

I have my winch hard wired with winch solenoid, inline fuse,so I can use it with key off( and I wanted it this way, even think directions back then told you too
if I recall right))
its been wired this way since 1999, NO power drain at all from winch, and NO issue's other wise either>
Winch only uses power when you press the switch(In/OUT)

NOT saying your's cannot be draining power, but if things are in good working order, it should NOT draw power
things that draw power on NEW atv's are there computers and all there electronic's they have

so like said above, on newer atv's you need to have a tender hooked up, if you don't use the atv regularly and for a while when you do to charge things

you can also use a volt meter to see what is drawing power or not

I wired mine the same to start with and then thought, what if something bridged the live in to a directional pole.... So I fitted the isolation switch.
I figured riding in mud and water above the fenders that it's Better to be safe than sorry.
