Hi guys I just finally upgraded from a warrior 350 to a 2001 Honda 400ex. The guy I bought it from said he got it from his brother and didn't know anything motor wise about it. I bought it from him on Letgo and after I bought it I was the same quad on craigslist (The exact quad I just bought) and the description said it was bored to a 426 with a stage 1 hot cam and new timing chain, timing chain guides. So I was wondering if there's any way to know for sure if all of this has been done without tearing into the engine. My friend wants to buy it off me and I don't want to sell it if it is a 426. Thanks

Yep no other way. You can bore scope it and see if its an aftermarket piston but thats it. No part numbers to read on the top of them or anything like that.

You might be able to measure air displacement using a balloon. Somehow fit a plug into the plug thread and pipe that air into a balloon; measure/record the diameter. And then with a second same size balloon fill it with known volumes of water for both size bores. Compare diameters

Original receipts? It's no guarantee, but it's something.
