how to bleed your brakes !

MAKE SURE YOUR BRAKE SHOES ARE ADJUSTED ALL THE WAY OUT INSIDE YOUR DRUMS !!... ( THIS ONLY APPLIES TO SHOES..NOT DISK BRAKES ! )...it works better with visegrips..but..channel locks work too if you can get a strong enough grip on the brake line ??..ok..clamp the channel locks/visegrips on the brake line..pump the brake lever..when the lever gets firm..slowly..slowlyyyyyy release the channel locks/visegrips..at the same time..keep pulling the lever in..when you get the lever all the way to the handle bar grip..clamp back down over the brake line..make sure it's tight !!!..( this is why visegrips work better by the way ! )..after you know for sure the line is clamped shut....pump the brake lever again..when you reach the firm point again..slowly..slowly release the visegrips..at the same time pulling the brake lever in..now..by now..you should have felt the brake fluid squirting past the visegrips ????..if so..then your doing it right !!!!. ..ok..now..with visegrips clamped on the brake line..pump the lever..when you get some firm pressure..slowly release the visegrips....while holding the lever in....with your bleeder wrench on the left wheel !!..open the bleeder valve..close the bleeder...then let go of the brake lever. check your fluid level..make sure your not empty..or close to it !!!..pump the brake lever..is it still soft ?..or does it feal like it's getting some pressure ??..depending on which one you get..depends on the next move, if you got alittle pressure..pump the brake lever..when you get pressure..hold it..while holding the lever..open up the left bleeder on the left wheel..bleed off the air..close the bleeder..release the lever. if you did not get pressure ??..re-clamp visegrips...pump lever..when you get pressure..release visegrips..hold lever..open left bleeder..close bleeder...release lever..this make sinse yet ?..lol..ever bleed your car or truck brakes ??..your basicly doing the same thing here..except your doing it with a hand brake..instead of a foot brake. after you start to get alot of pressure from the brake lever from the brake....re-check your brake fluid level..always make sure you do not run out of fluid !!!..if you do..your gonna suck air right back into the master cylinder...THEN YOU GOTTA START ALL OVER !. now..lets do the right side..pump lever..hold..open bleeder on right wheel..close bleeder..release lever..pump..hold lever..open bleeder..close bleeder..release lever..you should be getting a firmer stroke on your brake lever by now ???..this process works for me..always !!!...after you get your brake lever where your brakes are working..top off your master cylinder with brake fluid..put the top on..all done !. added :..this works alot better if you have a helper !.

Yeah, I'm sure they will. Seems like people have problems with bleeding the brakes, more than anything else.
What exactly is the point with the vise-grips.Wouldn't that make it more complicated for someone not knowing for sure what they are doing?

the point of the visegrips is your clamping off the line..and just building brake fluid pressue near the master cylinder...instead of somehwere down ..say..two or three feet in the brake line..where your air is trapped.
just curious wheres the best place to clamp it off at near the handle or?

On the rubber line near where it bolts to the master cylinder. Just be careful that you don't clamp it together too tight or you might damage the rubber hose.
Question. At what point on the brake line do you clamp the vise grips, close to the left wheel or close to the master cylinder?
A. I've never heard of using vise grips for bleeding brakes, ever....and I work on a ton of shit. And B. I just replaced my entire front brake system and the old school way of pumping and holding worked perfect, no vise grips needed.
Be careful as to which line you clamp on to. . . . . Some of the lines are steel braided inside for pressure. and when you clamp vise-grips to them you will undoubtedly cause catastrophic failure.

If you remove the reservoir cover full to the top with fluid. Go to the wheel farthest from the lever loosen the bleeder them SLOWLY squeeze the lever until it bottoms out, hold it there and tighten the bleeder. SLOWLY release the lever and repeat 2 more times or until ALL bubbles are gone. Move to the other wheel and do the same thing. Fill the brake fluid up too!!!When you finish pump the the lever 8 or 10 times, hold it on the last and crack the bleeder loose on the farthest wheel. Hold it. . Tighten bleeder do the other side. . Fill resi, put cover on and try them out. . Keep us posted good luck
