The guy I bought it from told me it was a 2002 but i ordered a 92 link stock size chain and it was to short. Will the VIN # tell me and what digit? thanks

I bet google could tell you, but it will be somewhere on the front. On one of the struts, or part of the frame, etc.

Here is the VIN location for the 2005-2009 400 EX. If it's not located where this shows you, then it should be on, either the left or right, front frame tube.

Alright thanks guys. I'm stumped about my chain now. the guy from the shop told me it was a 92 link and ordered it. But it dont fit. I found the VIN and it is a 2002 does anyone know for sure what size chain it has? the sprockets are stock 15 tooth front and 38 tooth rear. I counted the links on the old chain twice. first time i counted 94 and second time 95

According to the 2005-2009 repair manual, it's a 94 link. I have a repair manual for a 2002, but I can't find it listed anywhere. I might have overlooked it, but I looked 3 different times and I can't find it. I can't even find where it lists the sprocket sizes.

Stock sprokets I think are 14-38.
