I recently got a cheap chinese ATV which quickly broke down, at the time I didn't have alot of money and it was hard to find other options, I stumbled upon Honda a little time ago, and after reading some reviews it seemed like a great option due to Honda's well-known reliability and low maintenance. When I was looking at my local dealership's site and these were the options

TRX250 FOURTRAX RECON

TRX420FA FOURTRAX RANCHER

TRX420FE FOURTRAX RANCHER

TRX500 FOURTRAX FOREMAN

TRX680 FOURTRAX RINCON

Could someone please give a short description of what these ATV's would be used for, and what attachments fit them etc.. I'm interested in the first one, though I will be missing out of selective 2WD 4WD, independent suspension etc.

The 250 doesn't have the power to do much work. It would only be good for light work and riding around trails. The 420 solid axle is good for work but the 500 solid axle is better because it has lower overall gearing and more torque. I dont know enough about the rincon to offer advice.

Thanks for the reply, though are attachments the same? Like is it impossible to mount certain attachment on like the recon??

Also, do you know the top speeds of these ATV's
It could take pages of typing to describe all the differences between all the Honda models. How about you start with the type of riding you do and use you want to get out of it, rider size, etc, and lots of guys here can give opinions and describe model differences based on that context.

I will be driving mostly in a forest and ocasionally road. I will be using it for about 3-4 days a week, I'm about 1,80 meters tall, and about 198 pounds also the kind of work I'll be doing is carrying supplies, getting rid of snow, helping cars get unstuck, plowing fields etc.

Sounds like more work than spirited trail riding. The Rincon is only really meant for pure trail riding because of it's very high geared transmission, so I would avoid the Rincon. And with the work you'll be doing, you'll need 4x4 so avoid the Recon as well (plus you'd feel crammed on the Recon at your height). So that leaves Foreman vs Rancher. And because of the work you'll be doing, I'd give the nod to the Foreman for the better gearing, solid axle, 4x4 diff-lock, and extra hp.

There are lots of accessories available for the Foreman as well. Most also work on the Ranchers since they share frame and plastics.

ok first off a ATV will not be very good at plowing fields at all, they cannot pull a plow period, they have neither the weight or the power to do so
they can pull a small ATV size disc(about 3 ft wide) and ANY atv you THINK you are going to use to plow a field or even a disc behind it, you will want at least a 500 CC sized motor and a 4 wheel drive as well
so that being said, the trx500 would be the only one I would even suggest at all for you in this regards
the larger motor in the TRX680 FOURTRAX RINCON
is just not geared for work, its more of a trail machine only type deal

so, if working a atv is in your demands, the 500 foreman in either a foot shift would be my suggestion for you
the 250 will NOT do much snow removal, and the rancher IMO is more of a trail atv over a work atv, its geared higher, sits in the same heavy frame.chassis as the 500 and has a LITTLE less HP to move the same weight and again for low end power work, its higher gears are not the best of the two for pure work!
its nota BIG difference, but if buying for a work atv, the 500 is the better tool from the honda line up!

if you really want to work ina field, plow dirt, disc, harrow plant anything, BUY A TRACTOR, you will be working an atv to its MAX trying to use one for that stuff and long life is never there when you work something at its max often!
a cheap used tractor will do 10 times the work in half the time and NOT be taxing the machine at all and they can be had in MOST places for fraction of the costs of a new atv!

To keep it short and sweet... A Rancher is a good allrounder without doubt, avoid IRS if you plan to tow or carry any substantial weight. Axle for work, IRS for comfort.
A foreman 500 is a workhorse that will do all the other stuff too.

I wouldn’t bother with the others personally, but that’s your decision to make.

Thanks for clarification, plowing fields would be an overstatement then. But it's not the primary use I would get out of it, due to the field not being very large. So the primary use would probarbly be the other things i mentioned. (also, a tractor is pretty slow and i like something with a little kick to it in terms of speed and torque.)

I would not buy a Recon (too small) or a Rincon (I like PS). That leaves Rancher or Foreman. Look for the best deal between the dealers in your area. New in the box and a couple years old can make you a happy guy, price wise. I like new, every now and then you find a barn queen but not often. The Rubicon is really cool but most of us can do with out the shine and spend the saved money on a trailer, which you will need.
I wouldn't buy a cheapo trailer either. Here is something you can find reliably as a used vehicle.

Mentioning speed, how quick are these and what's their MPG?
how fast for what model ?
they all are NOT super fast , most will come close to about 50 mph, some a hair over some a hair under
as for MPG's
that's a loaded question as it all comes down to the places you ride and the speeds you travel at
go super slow over tricky terrain and you will eat more gas than if your traveling at a higher rate of speed on easy roads
I am going to GUESS most larger sized 4x4 atv's will do about 50 miles on a tank of fuel, some maybe more, some again maybe less!
add in things like how much weight on atv, size of tires your running, all come into play though!
its VERY easy to carry a can of fuel if your going far too, so that's a plus , if it matters to you!

They will all go faster than you can stand imo!

How will they climb is more important and Misterclean mentioned gearing on the 500.

Mileage is difficult to judge because of the variable factors like terrain type, speed, distance traveled. Tank size can be a concern especially with my 30 yo rig 2.5 gal tank and usually 17mpg.

Roger that I saw year end closeout on a ‘17 Rancher foot shift for $6100. That went quickly.
I bought a 7*14 single axle (3500lb) trailer which fits two ATVs end to end and two dirt bikes too. Three ATVs side x side. $2900.
