I picked up a couple of the Rubicons this year for cruising the trails up North. We have had a lot of rain this year and some of the trails have some deep water crossings.
By deep I mean around seat height. Being a newbie I don't know all the limits of our machines and don't want to damage them.
How deep can I go with a stock machine?
If I go decide to go with a snorkel, do they have kits or do I have to make something up on my own? Owners manual says 10 inches, that's not enough. Had to turn back on a trail this past weekend.

As long as you move the gas tank vent up to the pod I don't see any reason why going to the bottom of the seat or so would be an issue. Beyond that you're risking it. There are snorkel "kits" out there. Or you can do it yourself. Not really difficult on the Honda's with only one intake to run and some vent hoses.

SYA Kits. I suggest you NEVER run them on the outside like this, and I have no idea why they are running 2.

I do like their snorkel risers though

I prefer to run the snorkel in the middle but it would block the handlebar light....

I'm currently snorkelling my 2017 bit by bit. I just did the first oil change and noticed the gas tank vent appears to be a grey hose that is actually tied into the front right frame. Is this corect? I'm not sure what this line could be otherwise because it comes down from the top of the gas tank.
Can I just unhook this line from the frame and zip tie it to somewhere under the pod?

The new rubicons are a bit scary to me with all the electrical stuff. I was going to dialectic grease all the connections, but they seem to be really tight as is. Would adding grease be worth while or a waste of time on these machines?

Yeah that's exactly what it is, crazy huh? I pulled mine out of the frame and was able to route it up to the bars. Just make sure the end of it is kind of in the open somewhere because it still needs to vent. Gas will probably come out of it when the tank is full to the top so keep that in mind.

I've only added grease to the easy to reach ones and ones that I've had to pull apart. It's worked for me, but rightfully they should all be done.

Snorkel is a cheap way to protect the bike from any water damage. The kits are pretty expensive compared to buying tubing, pipe and fittings. Here is a good thread to follow if DIY;

Thanks Johnny. Your link was good answered some more questions. The kits are expensive, will look at the DYI route. I didn't realize that there are a number of venting tubes that need relocation and connectors that need to be greased.

Top of my headlights (NOT HEADLIGHT POD ON BARS) are my limit and DO NOT GO THROUGH FAST.. Water rises up under the bike in a wake and will climb up to factory snorkel height.. This also keeps from finding a deeper hole and swamping it..

I agree, I won't go past the head lights on my rancher and I've been through some deep crossings/mud holes. Haven't had an issue going that high with the water.

yeah but the deal is, ONLY takes once to go too high and suck in water and fill your motor up and BOOM, BIG repair bill or long walk out LOL
your motor breaths as do your diff's and fuel tank and such, once you get vents under water, and there a sucking, bad thing happen FAST
playing in deep water past a ft or more, is , playing a game of WHEN will it get you, not IF
atv's ain;t boats , no matter what you see on youtube HAHA!
