I don't know , I am not a Recon guy , but the lug to the left looks close to the wires , that doesn't look just right ----maybe there is a pic in your service manual
Nothing in manual that I could find. Yes, it's the wires sticking out the end of the connector that concern me..

Thank you. I'll keep searching for an answer.

When I solve this my project will be all finished!

I just noticed that the left wire on top of solenoid is soldered in place. That doesn't look normal to me.

The reason I was inspecting the battery compartment is 1. to finish cleaning wiring of dust/dirt 2. When I push start button it makes a half hearted attempt to crank. When i push it the second time it fires up like it always has.

I'm maybe off.... Anyways... Mine acted hinky like that, and it ended being being cooked starter brushes ... Due to a week battery... Just tossing in :)

Thanks Wilson. I'll add that to my list of possibilities. My battery is only a few months old and fully charged. I keep a
trickle charger on it.

The starting issue is really not a problem.

I'm concerned about the wiring to the starter relay. Please look at the photos I posted and let me know if you see a problem. Thank you!

....is there enough room to flip that solenoid 180 degrees and the small trigger wires go between the fender and the bracket holding the solenoid .... it just don't look right like it is .... take a grinder and cut the wire ends sticking out the terminal off flush

There is no room because the wire in question has absolutely no slack.

I don't have a grinder but I have a Dremel and cut-off wheels. I assume that will work.

I studied that schematic last night...LOL. Now, I see what you're talking about!

Is the solenoid polarity sensitive?? If I rotate it like y'all suggested I would have to connect the RED wire to the opposite post from where it is now. There is no slack in the RED wire.

If I'm correct...it looks be hooked up backwards, so turning it 180 degrees it wouldn't make any defference and it would be in the correct way. And Those small solenoid signal wires in back (out of the way) make sence ?

Yes, perfect sense. I'm off to the garage to try it. I know there's a fuse there that will stop any surge, I hope, in case things go south. LOL

It worked!!! Fired right up!!

But, what I found out is the funny looking wire does not have the correct connector on it. It is flat where it connects to the solenoid and doesn't have the turn down on the edge. Also, I cannot make both connectors turn the same direction. See the photo, please. I guess this is okay since it's working. LOL.

Did I miss anything?? If not, THANK YOU @_Wilson_ and @fishfiles

You made me smile.. Thank you! Yep, that darn @fishfiles is just too smart! I would never have noticed that.

At some point I will replace that "flat" connector with the correct one.

I finally found a pic in the back of the Honda manual (not where I expected it to be) that shows the two connectors to the solenoid. The pic shows the connectors turned the same way that I have them in my pic - end of the left connector towards the left rear tire and right connector end faces towards the seat.
I hope this info will be of help to someone else.

Thanks again!!
