Also, make sure the other two wires aren't connected or plugged into the keyswitch unless the keyswitch is turned on or it won't start. The other two wires, if connected, will ground the ignition system.

also would like to add..if your good with key switches ( no i don't do this for anyone but myself in a emergency !)..you can take the tumblers out of the key switch if you know what your doing..then you can just use anything to turn it on.

Yep, I've done that a few times to keep from buying a keyswitch when the keyswitch went bad. If I remember right, you have to leave the last tumbler in as that is what holds the keyswitch together.

it's not a tumbler..it's shaped like a c-clip..it holds the round part that holds the tumblers together..that has to stay inside it..all the rest can be removed.

Yeah, I think I'm thinking about a Yamaha keyswitch. I think the last tumbler holds the Yamaha keyswitch together. I've removed the tumblers on both kinds, but it's been a long time and I can't remember good. LOL.

Hook the red wire and the black wire together and put tape or wire nuts on the other two wires, but don't let them touch or don't ground them or it will ground your ignition system and the ATV won't start.

The keyswitch works like this:

Keyswitch on = red wire and black wire connected, black/white wire and green wire are not connected.

Keyswitch off = black/white wire and green wire connected, red wire and black wire are not connected.

You check resistance across the primary windings (two terminals) and again across the secondary windings (end of coil wire and ground terminal), but I don't know the specs for your quad. I don't have a repair manual for it.

In looking at the wiring diagram it looks like the black with a white stripe wire needs to be grounded. The handlebar kill switch does this when it's not in the run position and according to the service manual, the ignition switch has four wires going to it. Two of the wires are the black with a white stripe wire and a green wire. The green is ground. The black with a white stripe wire goes to the CDI. When the ignition switch is off you should have continuity between these two wires.
