I just bought a 2007 TRX 500 FPE , electric shift
the gear selection with the up/Down switches does not work half the time
Have to "play" with the switches, go the other direction
than it works. talking of a mostly cold 40 deg F condition

Any thoughts how to remedy this are appreciated
thks

I'd actually think it is not the switches, but rather the position sensor [what ever they are called] need an adjustment. Mine do it 2, both of them. An 04 and an 08, particularly when it's cold, and if I try to switch gears up or down too quickly, it may not work. If I methodically push the button up or down with a solid press of the button, it works better.

If your bike has never been in the shop for a once over, it might be a good idea to take it in and tell them it shifts rough and let them look/adjust it.

It is common for the switches to be temperamental If cleaning the doesn't help then look at the shift motor or sensor.

Mine is acting up as well, but the selection guage is blinking, i have to wobble it back and forth , and turn the key on off on off and shift up and down real fast to get it to start shifting....
Welcome to the forums. When the gear position indicator is flashing, it's indicating a trouble code. Count the number of flashes and that's your code.
