This is my first time writing on any forums. I was wandering how many of these machines are still out there.Mine was built and raced cross country by a good friend until about 5years ago.It started life as a 1988 250r,a stroked 250x engine was swapped in around 1990,other items also were added at this time custom 4 gal aluminum gas tank,skid plates, race tech moded rear shock,large oil cooler.

Since then I have added Olihins front shocks,ITP GNCC tires,all shocks redone byTotal Control Suspension and have rode the snot out of it.

A couple months ago it started using oil and smoking, while riding in WVa I let it get low on oil and the top end started ticking then the motor just shut off,made no strange noises, now it will turn over but has no compression.

Got any ideas?? Thanks.

Welcome to the forums!! Could be a vent hole in the piston. Could be a valve. Time to tear down for sure.

Agree^^^^^^ you probably broke off a piece or the compression rings but defintily time for it to be opened up. The smoking was probably valve seals.

Im gonna say you broke off a piece of the valve stem and it dropped down thru the keepers.

And post some pics of your ride.
