The "Oil Light" you are referring to is actually an oil temperature light. It has nothing to do with pressure.

Did you have to split the case or just take front cover off. I would put a new oil pump chain in it, flush it out good with brake cleaner and try it. You can't mess anything up any worse than it already is IMO.
