They've had the same main mechanical design since 1997, they year they came out, and they still have it in they 2020 lineup. It's the longest standing single atv model I'm aware of, parts availability will outlive all of us.

I have a 1997 and wouldn't take anything for it. The repairs have been minimal over the years. One good thing is that you can work on it yourself if you are the least bit mechanical. The older models have no fancy electrical components and that's one thing that makes repairs easier. As @retro said, it's all about basic routine maintenance. No ATV will last if you ignore and abuse it.

You didn't say how old you daughter is, but the Recon is a great size for a young rider.
Be sure to buy a helmet, too. :)
