Honda Recalls 2008 Honda TRX500 ATVs
Staff

American Honda Motor Co. Inc. (Torrance, Calif.) has voluntarily issued a safety recall of its Model Year 2008 Honda TRX500 ATVs because the electric power steering shaft on the vehicles could break unexpectedly, resulting in a loss of steering control and posing a risk of injury or death to riders. The vehicles, manufactured in the United States and sold by Honda ATV dealers nationwide from October 2007 through March 2008 for between $6,850 and $7,400, are equipped with a type of power steering known as the Honda FourTrax Foreman 4X4. The ATVs came available in red, black, olive, white, and camouflage. "Honda" and wing logo are printed on the fuel tank and "TRX500" is printed on the side panel just below the seat. According to Honda and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, consumers should stop using the product immediately and contact any Honda ATV dealer to make an appointment for a free repair.

The TRX 500 is an adult-size ATV designed for use by riders age 16 and older, Honda says, adding that no incidents or injuries have been reported. About 1,400 of the vehicles are affected by this recall. Registered owners of the recalled ATVs have been sent direct notices. For more information, consumers can contact Honda toll-free at (866) 784-1870 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, or visit the company's Web site.
