Could it be factory engines don't have the wear as some of our used engines do ? So they adjust them cold ? Eh maybe I'm way off base, but I'd like to know the sure fire answer, and ive never seen you guys stumped before lol.

If you adjust them on a hot motor, I would think the metal would have expanded from the heat, and thus would give you excessive clearance when the engine is cold.

If you adjust them cold, you have .006 of room to expand so there would be practically no clearance when the engine is warm.

That's how I've always looked at it.
