do all honda rancher make a little bit of valve noise even after being adjusted correctly? the noise isnt to bad to me sound almost normal but not sure

I just readjusted mine, quiet as can be. First time I did them with feeler gauges still had some noise. Same as my uncle's that's never been adjusted lol.

Did it with this method below.

That's what I did. Worked for me. You don't want them too tight either though

Yes let idle till the motor is fair warm

No i did it on a cold engine that had been sitting for a couple of hours do you warm yours up alitte first?

Motor changes when its hot. You are running it when hot most of the time so yup.

Yea but isn't the whole reason you set valve lash when it's cold so it's good when it's warm after everything had heated up?

Factory says to do it on a cold engine. I'm curious on this one too.

i've always done mine on a fairly warm engine. never had a problem with it

Could it be factory engines don't have the wear as some of our used engines do ? So they adjust them cold ? Eh maybe I'm way off base, but I'd like to know the sure fire answer, and ive never seen you guys stumped before lol.

In the 2016 TRX500 owners manual it doesnt say either way, but does warn against working on a hot motor. So maybe it is a liability issue.

In my 2001 Rancher’s manual, it says to do it on a cold engine.

If you adjust them on a hot motor, I would think the metal would have expanded from the heat, and thus would give you excessive clearance when the engine is cold.

If you adjust them cold, you have .006 of room to expand so there would be practically no clearance when the engine is warm.

That's how I've always looked at it.
