Hi all,
If I post this in wrong section, admin can move it!

I start to tell I’m a technician in automotive business and have been for about 25 years, so I think I have a lot of knowledge and experience, but not so much of ATVs.

Problem!
When i cranking the starter feels like get stuck sometimes, but if you release start button and try to pushing for 2-3 times it starts. Starter motor try to turn but stuck or can’t rotate the motor. Sometimes it starts directly and sometime I need to push start button several times before starting.
The symptom is like when ignition/timing is out of spec. It’s like a sort of back firing. The compression feels to high so the starter can’t rotate the engine. When this happens the rope starter is so hard that you can’t pull it.
Everything initial have been checked (at technician level)
Below checken or replaced:
  • No DTC.
  • battery is new.
  • Starter relay checked an bypassed.
  • Positive and Ground cable to starter checked. (I have bypass starter with jump start cables direct to starter from battery)
  • Starter motor changed to new.
  • Spark plug changed to new.
  • Ignition timing checked. (have tried to check but hard to see because of all oil splattering)

Thoughts / questions,
It is possible if timing chain have jump one tooth, and cause this symptom?

Can I check timing marks without dissembling the whole engine?

Is anyone familiar whit this trouble?

I can answer my own question…
I have found to high compression (nearly 15 bar - spec. 5 bar)
This indicate possible fault in decompression mechanism.
I will dismantle engine and let you know. 😁
