Hey guys, I have a 2010 Honda rancher 420 that I put the Honda foreman 500 jug and piston on. I upgraded it cause I had to have the motor rebuilt as the factory rubber gaskets on the air box didn't hold up through deep mud and the rings got worn, etc. I'm not having any issues with the motor itself but rather the starter motor. I recently replaced the starter and solenoid cause I was having issues with getting the motor to turn over. The old starter on the bike was seized up and wouldn't move so that is why I replaced it. After replacing both of these it was doing the same thing, so I took it into the shop and they found they had to put a spacer on one side of the starter because it wasn't properly aligned beforehand. I got it back and the starter sounds like I'm trying to start an old diesel truck in the middle of winter.

TLDR; I understand it needs a more powerful starter motor to turn over the bigger piston. The one I ordered was supposedly stronger than stock (according to the parts dude), but that definitely is not the case, its weaker. He recommended i get the fire power starter motor(never again.) What can I do to get this engine to turn over more reliably? There's no way I'm taking it out on the trails like this. Or is there actually a stronger starter I can use out there?

Not sure how to edit but also thought it would be note worthy that I have an HMF swamp series xl exhaust along with an HMF optimizer that I have also tuned to add a bit more fuel to compensate for the bigger piston. When running it runs flawlessly. Also I've had the battery tested and it has no problems with it whatsoever.

Put an OEM starter on there and check that your battery cables and ends are in good shape, clean, and firmly connected.

I have a 500 kit on the wife's 420. No issues with the stock starter.

I think your starting issue and your big bore kit are completely unrelated.

Same starter thats on hundreds of thousands of 500 foreman bikes. Your issue is with your connections, cables or battery itself.
