Can you supply more information about what happened prior, what noises it made before you shut it off, what you were doing when it stopped working, etc?

Help others help you by giving as much detail about the problem as possible.

Is it an ES model and if so, will it go into neutral by using the manual shifter? Also, what year is it?

I own a 2000 honda rancher 350 ES and it did the same thing to me once...I took it to a honda repair shop and they informed me that the bike had a recall on the electric shift...they replaced it and i didnt pay a dime...check and see if you have a recall..good luck.

I've heard something about a recall on some of the 350 Ranchers, but I don't know what years or which ones would be included. It might be worth checking into, though.

Hey,

I had a honda rancher 350 ES also that I bought from a auction site called cranky ape and it had the exact same problem as what you described above. It was in really great shape and ran good but it wouldnt register neutral as well. I thought it was because someone rode it hard and it broke. I checked into it and mine was under reccall. It would definatly be worth checking out. Other than That i have been very happy with the honda's performance.

Having the exact same problem with a 450ES. Just got off the phone with honda powersports, and they said there’s no recall on the 450. How hard of a fix is this for a backyard mechanic? Anyone? I’m very mechanically inclined, and usually fix all my own stuff, and the atv in question belongs to a nonprofit horse rescue that has little to no dough to take to a honda certified mechanic. There’s a good chance i will have to do the repair myself. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum. I would start a new topic as this one is several years old.

Also, did you check out this sticky for possible ES issues?
