What Honda models have low range on them? I cant find any Ranchers that have it. I have a 2007 400FA now that doesn't have it either. Do any of the 420 models have this option on them?

Working/living on a farm I can honestly say I’ve never encountered a time where I’ve needed any lower gear than 1st (super low) on the 300. I remember my old Moto 4 had low, never used that either IRC.

the old susies have high and low range, not sure about the newer models ?, i only ride Honda !..lol. my '89 trx350D foreman has a super low for first gear as well. all the old Hondas like the trx300's and trx350's have 1st as super low, and trust me..they won't move fast in super low, and have some heck of pulling power !!..lol.

I agree and never remember needing a lower gear than 1st and that expands over 30 years of ATC/ATV use.

The 05-14 Rubicons have a low selection but it's an automatic, and in low seems to be geared about the same as the 05-11 Foremans in first gear.

Most Hondas are geared so low in 1st that you don't need a designated low range.

Your 400AT and the 420AT's are probably the worst if you're looking for pulling power. You need a footshift if you want to pull.

My 2015 Foreman 500 is fairly slow in first gear, but I still wish it was slower. One alternative is to install a gear reduction. If I did that, I think I would go with the 35% reduction. Of course, that will knock 35% off the top end too, but I never go that fast anyway. I can get by well enough the way it is, though, so I don't think it is worth making the change in my case, anyway.

Well I don't have to have it really. I can remember a few times since I've had this 400 that I wish I had the low range for pulling someone out that's stuck. Just makes it a little easier on the machine. Its like my 4 wheel drive I hardly ever use it but its there if I have to. I never run auto either. I use the ESP.

Curious do you have an application which you are wanting a lower gear? Reason for asking, I have the same unit and feel 1st is extremely low and just curious what kind(s) of applications would need a lower gear.

Yes, every year I use my ATV with trailer to collect firewood from my woods. There are trails that I use for the most part, but there is always a distance to drive off trail to get close to the tree that has been cut down. This involves snaking between trees to get where I need to go. Once my trailer is full, the load on the ATV is considerable, and I need to drive slowly as I take the load out because the terrain is rough, and I have to snake around trees as described.

If you have a 400AT now it's no wonder you want a low range. Any Honda like the 420 SRA with footshift or ES will have plenty low enough gearing compared to the 400.
Yea I havent ever rode the 420's. I guess I need to ride one. Man they are expensive now seems like from when I bought one. I gave $4700 out the door for my 400FA Rancer 4x4. Had ESP or Full auto. I always use ESP. I got my service done today. They checked valves and they were perfect and needed no adjusting. Got oil and filter changed and everything checked. Cost me $168 out the door. Less than I expected for sure. Seems like the Rancher 420 floor shift was $5399+ taxes today. ESP shift was like a grand more. Crazyness...

Okay, those conditions would certainly merit options.

If Honda would have simply put a sub-transmission with Low range in the 400FA, I would have a completely different (positive) opinion of my machine.

My 2013 500 rubicon has low range. Ive done what you are doing for fire wood in the past and found it easier to buck the logs up and drag them out. Friend of mine had a atv log skidded he made up. Worked pretty good. Logs didn't get covered in dirt.
