Hi Guys, looking for some guidance here with a problem i have with my 2002 fourtrax electric shift. The issue is it won't select 1st gear either with manualy or electric, it displays 1st gear on instrument panel but no drive. A second issue is when driving in 3rd gear it feels like its popping in and out of gear while driving. 2nd, 4th and 5th gear seem fine...... Can anyone help me with this..... Thanks in advance.

Its hard to say exactly... but sounds like bent/broken shift forks/worn out drum issues..? Its likely got some torn up gears in it by now too. You'll have to tear it down to identify all the damaged parts. Being that it is a 16 years old bike I'd tear it down and fix it with used transmission parts from powersportsnation. They'll sell ya a good complete '02 & up trans, dirt cheap. Get'cha a copy of the service manual linked here for reference:

before you go tearing the motor out, and apart ?, at least drain the oil, or jack the front up very high, pull the cover off the electric shift area where the transfer gears are, have a look there. you may just have some bad gears right there ?. while your there, pull all the gears out, clean all the old grease out ( if any is even in there ? ), try shifting the tranny with the manual shift lever, if it changes through all the gears while you have the elec shift gears out, then you will get a better understanding of what needs to be done next. this still does not, will not rule out that you may have to pull motor, and split it, to have a look inside it for bad parts.
