Is it necessary to change the gear case oils?

If your doing any mudding or creek riding at ALL, then yes Take out the plug and check to see that its still dark and similar to motor oil, If its Milky looking or has kind of a caramel look to it i would change. Its usually best to change every 1-2 years if your not getting it into serious mud or water

I agree with 450RMAN. The gears and bearings will last a lot longer if you change it. The maintenance schedule says to change it every 2 years, but if you ride in a lot of mud and water, I would change it more often. I would check it every time I rode in mud and water and if I saw any water in it, I would change it immediately.
