is there any way i can put a tachometer on a 1990 honda fourtrax 300 2wd

you could do a Tiny Tach , very simple to connect

+1 to the Fish suggestion. I have one on my bike. There is a wire coming out of the tach that wraps around the fat spark plug wire to inductively sense the spark pulses inside the wire. So you don't have to cut wires anywhere on your bike to install it.

Great for setting idle speeds, etc.

Make sure you buy the "Commercial" version. The standard model updates every 2.5 seconds, really only good for setting idle and seeing what WOT is, but not really fast enough for much else. The commercial version updates every 0.5s and is quite a bit better.

EDIT: Nevermind, they changed them since I bought one 10 years ago. lol They both update every .5 second now....
