So I am relatively new to the aTV world. I got a really good deal on a 2002 foreman 450 but I need to replace the brakes and the clutch cable and possibly the lever. It drives but everything on the hand is just very loose and I can shift into first gear without grabbing into the clutch lever. Is the clutch cable and the brake cable the same thing on a manual ATV. I know I am supposed to hold the clutch in to shift but doesn’t that also hold the brake in at the same time?

Here’s something to confuse you..!! There’s no clutch cable and 1st gear isn’t down..

So a conventional bike engine is usually 1 N 2345 (possibly 6) a Honda utility ATV is R N 12345. 1 on foreman’s and 300 fourtrax is known as low or super low.

The clutch system is ‘semi automatic’, when you raise or depress the gear lever the clutch is engaged. The left lever operates the rear brake (park brake) and the reverse lock out.
So, all forward gears can be selected without using any lever at the bars, just shift with your foot. Reverse is engaged by pressing the red ‘R’ button on the left lever and then pulling (at the same time) the lever in. Then, and only then should you be able to select reverse.

Hope that helps

yep..no such thing as a clutch cable on your atv !. left lever is for reversing , and rear brake, thats all these is too it. now, on some models, like the sport atvs, spec 2-strokes, they use a clutch cable, but you still can shift gears without even using this cable !. its best to use it though..lol. utility atvs do not have clutch cables :).
