my 400ex runs fine once it is started but the start button no longer works a buddy of mine told me to place a screw driver between 2 terminals Down near the battery and that starts the quad but what could be the problem to where the button does not work any more and now my lights dim out the higher the rpm gets when i start off in a gear the lights are bright and fine but once it starts to build rpms and ready to change gears the lights dim any one with ideas of what could be wrong please let me know

Almost sounds like the stator is going bad, that is the only thng I can think of(right now) that would cause the lights to go dim like that. The start button on my 450, the spring collapsed and it would not work anymore. I had to replace the whole light switch on the left handle bar.

Yeah, I would replace that switch. Something on the inside of it may be shorted out causing it to pull power away from your lights.

Agree^^^^ you could even pick up a momentary switch form your local auto parts start and make up some pigtails to try it and see how your lighting does then before ypu shell out the bucks for a new switch assembly.

Agree^^^^ I did the exact same thing.
