Hello.
I have been trying to get my "new" toy running and did something a bit reckless...
While trying to get the cover off over the float( to inspect and clean), I encountered a screw head that immediately malformed and wouldn't take the bit. So I tried to drill it out. A bit hastily I tried to move the cover, and in the process cracked the soft metal around where that screw sits.
I am still upset about my dumb mistake. Sometimes I need to know when to be done for the day so this kind of thing doesn't happen.
Anyway, I have been searching the internet for just the cover, but am not having any success.
Is it an option to buy just a cover or do I have to get a whole new carb?

Thank you.

As you can see retro edited your thread. We try to keep it clean and family friendly on this forum. There is no need for it here as we are all just honda atv fans that like to help people keep them running. What you are looking for is the float bowl for a 400ex carb. I would bet ebay has one. It can be off any year 400ex. They are all the same. I will go through my parts stash and see if i have one by any chance. Welcome to the forums!

It's called a bowl not a cover. Do what the others suggested please. Also you can grip the screw sometimes with vice grips or do what I do, Use a chisel to make a cut in the screw then dull the chisel so it will not cut and insert it into the cut you just made. turn the screw by striking it in the direction it needs to turn. My experience with stripped screw heads usually started because the wrong sized screwdriver was used or the tip was worn out. Again, please listen to these guys.......most of them really know their stuff.

Thank you to those that have been genuinely helpful.
I was unaware, until the aggressive comment, that is called a bowl, not a cover that I need. I did not know (as a newbie), that they were synonymous. Also when given that OEM part number there was not an image to be found but just barcodes on all of the sites, so I was still unaware that this was the correct part, hence my second inquiry. Now that I know, I can look it up and see that a float bowl is in fact what I need for sure. So thank you for helping me with that.

I would also like to say to Misterclean, that I think the condescension was unnecessary and unfair, especially considering I am new to this. Perhaps you will be kinder to others in the future.

To those of you that were nice and helpful, thank you.

Good luck to you all. Ride safe, and have fun.

I didn't mean to be disrespectful to you, I just wanted you to respect the time, knowledge and effort Slammed gave you. You never apologized or acknowledged your edit for language. Then you were given the correct name of the part and part # by Slammmed. This was disrespectful in my opinion because your next response was like you never even read his posts. I mentioned it and gave you a probable cause and solution to the "stripped screw" problem. You did have a rough start huh.....I'm sorry about that. looks like both of need to be more careful huh?
