Honda 300fw won't move.

Hey guys, so here's what I've done.
I recently acquired a 2000 Honda 300fw in dire need of a freshening up of the engine.
I tore down the engine and had it bored .020 and installed a new piston, the timing chain was very loose so decided to go ahead and replace it.

So I took off the right cover and proceeded to disassemble everything, installed new chain and reassembled everything.
I really took my time and made sure things were correct when I reinstalled.

Now after the initial start and run it will not move. I tried the free play adjustment and no change. So I'm wondering if maybe the one way bearing on the back of the clutches could be installed backwards because the kick start doesn't work now.

I made sure my shift linkage was installed correctly by lining up the dot and arrow. So I don't think that is it.

When I put it in gear I get a small amount of movement then its like I'm in neutral, I even put it in gear and can roll it around like it's in neutral.

I would really like some experienced insight before I take the side cover off again.

As I recall, on my 2000 350 Rancher, the one-way clutch would allow me to push the ATV backwards, but not forward, when in first gear with the engine off. That would mean that if you can push it freely forward, but not backwards, then the one-way clutch is installed backwards.

Does your kickstart work? You need to open side cover back up and reset the plates in the change clutch (rear clutch). Pull he cover off and see if they are loose. They should be tight to the front of the basket, when you don't tighten the 4 bolts down evenly a little at the time you will bind them and cause your problem.

Pull cover off and check the one way, and check the clutch plates, make sure nothing is stuck between the basket and pressure plate. I had my 1994 apart putting a GR in recently and ended up taking it apart 5 times before I figured out that the loc-tite I had used (on the 4 small bolts on the change clutch) had ran down and hardened on the face of the basket. I could not figure out what was going on and was sure it was a centrifugal issue rather than the change clutch...

You had it, pulled side cover and clutches were loose. Loosened up the bolts and they snappped right back into position. Tightened everything back up and had cover back on and riding in less than 20 min.

When I put my new clutches and stall in, I had my side cover off 5 times trying to figure out what I didn't have put together right, and the last time I didn't do anything different but it worked and I didn't question it lol. Get a service manual and read it good or there is a good write up on here for the stall spring install that has good pictures for putting it back together
