I got a 300 fourtrax and i don't know what year it is. But i got it from an uncle for free and it was siding outside for a little and he was done with it. There are a couple new parts like a gel battery, new front tie rods, front master cylinder. The seat is trashed and there is some holes and rust on the racks but it has the kick start and i kicked it and it had really good compression. So i just wanted some pointers on where to start i am going to clean the carb, change the oil, check the timing and a couple other things but what should i do after what? And if you are really good at maybe giving me a rough guess on the year that would help because i looked on the frame where it is mounted on my 300ex and it is there?

gray dash cover , muffler tail pipe , no fender flares says first gen 88-92 , does the exhaust pipe make a u shape right out of the head ? that would narrow it down a few years -------- not finding a vin number isn't a good thing , it should be on the bar in front in the middle

i have the vin but it is really hard to read i guess i will try to get it and i will look at the exhaust

10 digit of the vin is the year code by a chart , also there could be decals under the seat or on the front left tube , if it says something like TRX300FWT , the T will be the year ------- post a pic of the exhaust at the head , 88-91 has a u shaped exhaust pipe like this pic , 92 changed ---

we have narrowed it down to 88-91 .

...if you post the serial number off the engine I might be able to tell you the year of the engine and chances are it is the same engine that was in it
