Folks I have a 250 engine only out of a 4 wheeler. Is there some way to tell the year by block numbers? Or other ways.
Stamped on the casing is:
171FMM
FZ137138

could be any engine from a atc 250 big red ?, to a trx250 fourtrax ?. unless its a trx250R ?. a pic is worth a thousand words around here .

The gentleman said it was out of a honda 4 wheeler. I dont see HONDA any where on this motor. Didnt know if they used Japanese motors or? Here are some pix.

Honda engines usually have the number stamped on the right hand side below the jug

I will check for some more engine numbers but I am with you guys. Dont think it is a Honda. Google shows it on TaoTao 4 wheeler. Thanks You guys are a lot of help.

deff not a honda 250 engine !..lol. some stupid china after market spin off of a 250 , but damn sure ain't a 250 honda engine !!!.
