Was coming off a mountain yesterday and I started to hear what at first sounded like a squeaking noise. Once down on the main road the noise continued, but instead of a squeak it because more of a constant high pitch noise. The only way I can explain it is, it's like the sound a car makes when a break pad is rubbing or when there is dirt or dust between the pad and rotor. I got it home and sprayed it off, then let it set for a while.. Got back on and took about a 3 mile ride and the noise didn't return. Any ideas what this might be? Hopefully I am worrying over nothing hehe.. Thanks in advance :D

ok, what machine? and yr? miles hours??
info? more you give us, better we guess/try to help you! LOL

a dry joint maybe, and after it heated up, and cooled down, it grease itself, till you run it dry again
all CV boots look good?

other thing could be a one way bearing going south on you, and same deal, hot got dry, parked it, oil mixed on it some and quiet for NOW<

My bad, I was in a hurry to get this posted and forgot to leave any info haha..

2002 Honda Rubicon 500 Has almost 4,000 miles.. It has been serviced and the previous owners kept it serviced until they stopped riding and parked it for a little over a year. I have only had it for a few weeks it have only taken it on about 3 trips..

Also I have no mechanic skills and this is my first ATV ever so I really don't know anything about them, but I will try to read through the manual and find the things you were talking about :D

if the atv sat for over a yr, and there was moisture in the oil /motor, or?? its possible a one way bears got rusty and is now again on its way out
same can be said for dry CV joints
simple thing to check on CV joints is, get up close and personal with the boots, look for any tears, if so, they need to be fixed, and that could be your issue's
if you DON"T see any tears or??
squeeze then and see if they squeeze or is like a balloon and full of air, and doesn't come out like, they should be TIGHT, so they work to keep water and crap out, if NOT, they again could be bad or just need new packing of grease?/

its very hard to tell what something is by sound, when your NOT there to hear it

you can get a service manual(NOT an owners manual)
either BUY a hard copy, or there are free online down load ones

and last, if this atv SAT for over a YR, I HOPE you did it and yourself a huge favor, and did some basic things to it before running it
like changing ALL fluids, oil,oil filter, clean and or relplace the Air filter!
drain and replace the diff fluids, and drained any OLD fuel in the tank, and made sure the tank is clean inside
and IF liquid cooled, you maybe want to drain and flush the coolant and start with new coolant too
a new spark plug isn';t a bad idea either!

skipping these things can be a lot of unneeded issue's to come for you!
just good advice here, things that sit, and then run more, can mix dirt and crap that settled into places it shouldn't be!

Are the brakes stuck? Check and adjust as necessary per the service manual.

Is this a Hondamatic trans model?
