Hello,

I live in Western Maine near Sunday River ski area. We have ample atv trails and I am looking to buy an older Honda Fourtrax for my family and I to enjoy. I like to do all kinds of outdoor activities, hiking, camping sports ect and would really like to get out there on the trails to enjoy some more wilderness. Thanks for looking and please say hello. Also if anyone has any advice on the machine I would like to purchase (88 Fourtrax 300 4wd) please let me know.

Finally another Mainah!!!! Welcome! Some good trails out there in the west? I live in central Maine, near Waterville and there are a crazy amount of trails around the area!

Welcome I have a 93 TRX300 and four at work. These models are very dependable nimble and easy to maintain, esp great for new riders. Some vital parts are discontinued by Honda, like carbs and in my case a fan control module. So then use fleabay
If the 88 you’re considering has been well cared for then you might expect it to continue running well with continued care. Good luck and post up a picture!
As FF said the first year models often have one year only Parts, like my 86 TRX350

Welcome to the forum :) Fishfiles has given good advice, try to avoid the 88-92 model. 93 onwards will see you with a far better parts availability.
You came to the right place for information for sure. Put pictures up of the ATV’s your considering and we’ll point you in the right direction.

I ended up passing on the '88, it had a frame repair and I took your guys advice about the lack of parts. I instead just bought a '00 300 4x4 right down the road from my house for $500! It starts right up but only idles, even when you lay the throttle wide open, so I'm hoping it's just a carb issue. Here's some pics of the beast, tires are hardly used, frame looked great, just needs some tlc and should be fine.

from looking at the front fender, there was at once time a snorkel on it ?, which tells me, the carb may have had the jets changed from oem jets ?. may want to have a look inside the carb :).

@Walton8799
Hmmm something’s not right with the fenders they don’t hug the fuel tank

Also that front carrier and bumper has been bent all to heck to make the fender fit
I bet that tank is not a trx300 tank ?!..lol.
