2006 honda rancher 350 4x4. Need to kno where to start on fixing this problem. It went through some thick nazty mud an got over heated. Now it smokes a little and has a ticking slash knocking noise. Any help where to start.this wil be my first time taking it apart.. Thanks in advance

more than likely you fried your piston and cylinder. time to get the service manual, and start tearing it down. DO NOT KEEP RUNNING IT..OR YOUR GOING TO DESTROY THAT ATV ENGINE !!!.

yup sounds like you cooked something inside over heating it
didn;t the oil temp light come on to let you know your going too hot??
and surprised it didn;t shut down before doing damage
you can also try doing a compression test before tearing it down to seem but odds are you already did damage if you got a knocking sound, time to open the wallet and fix before making a larger repair bill!
