have a 250 recon that wont start its not getting fuel i can put gas in the carb and it will run till it burns it all then dies .the fuel switch is working pulled the line off the carb and fuel runs out so its getting to the carb any help would be nice thanks

Remove the carb and give it a good cleaning. A rebuild kit would be better. Shouldent coast more than $20 or 25 dollars

There is limited information we can give you to the specifics. If you aren't comfortable doing it, then take it to a shop.

Simply put, you need to take the bowl off the carb, spray it with cleaner and loosen up the float. Chances are good you should rebuild the carb, but just a quick clean would probably get it running again.

If you buy a service manual, it will give you more specific instructions on some do it yourself maintenance you can do, but without being there, we can't offer much more help than just generic 'do this do that' type of advise.

The do this do that advise currently, is take the bowl off and spray it with cleaner to loosen up the float.

If you do it your self put the carb on a clean surface so you will be able to lay out every thing you take off the carb. Thats just so you dont drop any thing on the floor and it get lost. I have done that. If possible get a frind to help that has done it before but deinitley get a manual.

sounds liken a blockage in the needle and seat , the seat needle is cliped to the float but probably needs rebuilding like 99 said.

i took the bottom of the carb off and sprayed the float with carb cleaner it was really dirty then i put it back together and when i turned the gas on it just runs out the bottom hose and wont stop.thanks for the help

You mean the bottom hose on the carb? I assume that is an overflow, so now the float is stuck open. Sounds like you need to pull the whole thing off and give a complete cleaning.

yeah the bottom hose.should it start even though the float is hung open.

If there is alote of trash in it the jets could get stoped up. If its that dirty take it all apart and clean it. If you have a air compresior . carb cleaner blow the jets out after cleaning. Take all the jets out spray cleaner through all jets and were they came out of.

You can also use a tooth brush to help on cleaning.

got it running but it wont idle.i really dont know what the jets are but when i took the cover to get to the float off i unsrewed those to brass things the longer one was plugged and i got it cleaned where i could blow though it but the smaller one i never could blow through it are you supposed to be able to blow through both let me know thanks

Yes you are one is stoped up. That is the jets. Take a wire out of a good wire brush and clean it out.
