Hey guys,
I have a 1991 TRX200 which I drive on my farm for work and transportation. Well recently I let a friend drive while I was out, and when I got back, he was gone a my ATV was parked by my garage. So I turned the key, and like normal, the neutral light came on. However, when i pressed "START", nothing happened, no noise at all, only the neutral light gets dim, as if it were going to start. I know the battery is fine, because its brand new and i already checked it. I also checked the wiring harness and the wiring seemed to be fine. I've been trying very hard to figure out whats wrong with it, but since im 16 y/o with limited knowledge about ATV's.. there isn't much i know about the problem. Please help. Let me know if you need more information.
Help will be much appreciated!

My bad guys! i just checked the starter switch not the actual starter..
But how am i supposed to check the starter itself?
Get a set of jumper cables and hook one end to a good battery and hook the ground on the other end to the starter casing or the engine. Now touch the positive to the post on the starter where the battery cable bolts. If the starter is good, the engine will turn.

The end of the jumper cables that you hook to a battery, I would hook to a known good battery in an automobile. That way you can eliminate the possibility that the battery in your ATV is bad and is keeping the starter from turning.

I just tried that and the starter works great. Thanks for helping me find that out! Now I'm still wondering why my atv wont work itself though.. Do you think its something to do with the wiring?

Try jumping the two posts on the solenoid with an old screwdriver and see if it will start.

jump the solenoid with a screw driver ( touch the two 10 mm nuts together..if it cranks...then your solenoid is bad..your solenoid has a postive battery lead going into it..then on the other side of it..it goes to your starter..when you push the start button..this solenoid makes the contacts inside it pull a metal band up inside of it..which connects the leads..if the solenoid is bad..it won't make a jumper inside the solenoid to let power go to your starter.

Yep, if the engine turns when you jump the solenoid, the solenoid is bad. If you turn the key on and jump the solenoid, the ATV should start.

bad news guys.. i tried jumping my solenoid today, and the engine revs.. but doesnt start.. any ideas why its not starting?
btw still haven't bought a new solenoid.
I would say you have two different problems. Does your neutral light come on when you turn the key on?

Yeah the neutral light does come on when I turn key. I took a starter solenoid out of my old lawn tractor.. it was the the identical of the atv's solenoid and it broke too. So I'm not sure if that means the solenoid was bad or if theres something else going on..
