I hope you all can help. I bought a 2003 trx400ex running good, but leaking gas. I pulled the carb and noticed that pieces were missing in carb and the float bracket was broken, so picked up a new OEM carb from dealer and just installed. But the bike won't start. Starter Turns over, I have a new battery, I pulled the plug and it looks like I'm getting spark, but I can't get it to catch at all. Any recommendations? Electrical issue? Please help. I've spent hours working on it.

Is it for sure turning the engine over? Are you getting a pulse in the exhaust as it cranks? Could be a starter clutch issue? Also did you adjust the idle screw on the new carb? If its brand new oem more than likely it will screwed all the way out. The new carb i purchased last year for my quad was that way when i first tried to start it.

Since it was running with the old carb on. You may need to do some tuning. Make sure you are getting fuel to the carb. Take the air filter off and spray carb clean in and see if you can get it to start up, if you do then that means there is either something wrong with your carb or you need to adjust.

It does sound like the starter clutch as slammed suggested, but if was running before on the old carb than it shouldn't be that.

You can double check by trying to bump start it.

Also double check to make sure the kill switch is also not flipped.

Go over everything you re-installed when you changed the carb (fuel line, pet cock).

If it's a new carb, double check to make sure the idle screw is actually adjusting the idle.

I recently made a post about replacing the idle screw cable on my carb, and discovered that the tension spring is too long to make any kind of real adjustment.

I had to cut the spring in half before I could properly adjust the carb.
