Hi i just got a 1989 honda 300 but it seems to not want to stay running im going to clean the carb but is there anything else i should check.

yes, l;ike clean tank, clean fuel lines(replace) clean fuel peacock,(not have this done, and cleaning a carb can be a waste of time, if you have crap in tank, fuel lines or peacock, as as soon as you try to run again, you will put crap back into the cleaned carb!
fresh fuel, after cleaning all above things! ethanol fuel can go BAD in a few weeks or less, pending condition and storage of it!


clean air filter, good spark plug? fresh oil/filter.


possibly engine compression? these ain't NEW machines, and motors do wear out!

doing a GOOD Once over on a new machine , is always just SMART and gets you a base line to KNOW when things were done and condition of things!
