Hi everyone,
I have a 2003 400 EX. I have had it for 8 months. I have done alot of work to it because it was in sad shape when i purchased it. The problem I'm having is that the clutch is slipping. I am at my final adjustments on the cable. I mainly trail ride in the woods. I need a little advice on what clutch to purchase to replace my stock clutch because the reviews that people post are confusing. You seem like you are all very knowledgable with all the posts I have been reading here since I purchased my quad.

Welcome to the forums. I would just take the old clutch out and replace the friction discs and the springs.

If you want an aftermarket clutch, someone else may be able to help you with that, as I always buy OEM parts.

Different places, the dealer, Ebay, bikebandit.com, cheapcycleparts. Mainly wherever I can find the best price on the part I'm looking for. If it's something I want now and don't want to wait on the shipping, I'll run to the dealer and get it.

has OEM and after market products.
I would just suggest an OEM product. I have never had no problems with them and they are not as expensive as the aftermarket clutchs. Hinson is like the King of the Hill clutch. Thats what I hear anyhow. Barnett also maks a great product from what I understand.
Currently I run the clutch that came with my quad. If it goes out. To Honda I go to get a new one.

when i research oem parts the clutch is not like a kit they are seperate
As in how many do i order of what because this is the first time im going to work on the clutch.

The clutch discs should come in a pack and that is all you need. The springs should com with it. Do you have a manual?

There are 7 clutch discs and 6 clutch plates. 5 springs. Those are definetly the parts you will need to change out a clutch. There maybe more things that need to be replced depending upon wear of the items. A manual will tell you service limits.

If the clutch discs are separate, you need 7 friction discs. There's 6 metal discs, but I would just get the friction fiber discs. I never replace the metal discs and I've never had a problem. It's always a good idea to get new springs too.

I usually just buy the springs and friction discs, but if the metal discs are discolored and have bluish looking spots on them, it would be a good idea to replace them because they could be warped.

ATV Parts, ATV Tires, Dirt Bike Parts & Motocross Gear | Rocky Mountain ATV/MC has a couple clutches made by tusk or EBC. Both make a clutch kit with the things you need to change.
