Could someone help identify the year of this atv, vins gone. Trying to find an oil/filter and air filter kit for it. Any help would be appreciated.

pretty sure the recons don't use oil filters ?, and I looked a 2008 trx250 recon up, and did not see a oil filter anywhere on the fich ??.

and you are sure the vin number on the metal cross bracket under the front fender is gone ?, or the number is not there ?, why would you have a atv where the vin number is missing ?. this screams to me, '' do not buy ..might be stolen ? ''..lol.

Good eye Shade , I missed the "vins gone " , that is a bad thing , I would never buy a atv with the vin gone , I would take it if it was free

I am not a 250 Recon guy , but I had a 200SX that didn't have an oil filter , that engine had a clutch in it that had a cavity that would catch particles by centrifugal force and a filter change was to pull the clutch , clean out the clutch cavity and the case screen , maybe recons are that way

Lol, this atv was free with a property our family purchased, I have no clue of the history, but free is free right ? So am I safe to assume this is a 2008??
That could be a touchy situation . How can a vin be gone , rust , grinding , welding ??? We have a couple of laws I can think of that would make me not want to have it in my yard , possession of a vehicle with altered or no vin number , possession of stolen property ----- you probably would not go to jail in an instance like you described , but you would lose the atv and all the money , work and time you put into it and likely a trip to court with a fee to straighten it out

W is 2008 , with the number off the engine you can also tell

@Rorustheredeemer it doesn't matter if its a 1999, 2008, or 2018, all Recon's use the same air filter and don't have an oil filter. So you can just buy an air filter for any year Recon and you're good to go.

oh, and @Rorustheredeemer if you want a little added protection, buy a Tusk magentic drain plug from rmatvmc.com (M12x1.5) or from goldplug.com. That's what we did for the Recon in our family since it doesn't have an oil filter. Not a bad idea to do for any engine anyway.

Thanks @wheelsquad for all the great information, do you grab your maintenance items online or order at a dealership? I found an oil/ spark plug and air filter for 250trx 50$ on Amazon.
as far as Amazon goes, here's your best bet and price is decent: https://www.amazon.com/1997-2006-Honda-Complete-Service-Tune-Up/dp/B00INAV8BY and it's certainly convenient. OEM air filter too.

Though personally I would just go to wally world and get twice as much oil and buy a gallon of Rotella T6 for $23 so you'll have enough oil for your next change too. Then pick up an oem or aftermarket air filter from your dealer or online for about $20 and $3 or less for a spark plug and you're in for about the same cost but for 2 oil changes. don't forget to use a good tacky foam air filter oil.

And to add to your options, you can buy a pre-oiled air filter from motosport.com and get oem ngk spark plug from them, but you'll have to pay $7 in shipping.

Edit: Rotella T6 is also available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Shell-ROTELLA-Synthetic-Diesel-550045347/dp/B01LH7L0KS as is OEM air filter: https://www.amazon.com/Honda-17254-HM8-000-Air-Filter/dp/B00HPTLO04
