Hello I'm new to atvs. My middle son is 7 and we bought him a 1998 Honda TRX 90. I was looking for info on them and found this sight. Looks like a great place to find info and trade storys. My oldest son races go karts but my other two boys like atvs. So this is where I'm at now. My youngest son who is 5 got my middle sons old 40cc 2 stroke atv after we got the 90.
I have a question about the 90. The brakes are hard for to use, the cables seem very tight for his grip and the foot predel doesn't work the greatest. Can recomend anything I can do besides new cables all around or is that the best thing I should do? He is wanting to race it alittle but he needs to stop better first. I atleast know that much. LOL

Thanks for any help. Shawn

agreed with mud, brake shoes are bad..and you need new cables..new shoes won't help if you can't operate the shoes. welcome to the forums..you came to the right place for advice.

wow, they are young to learn this sport. did you start this young? oh yea... welcome!!
That is not too young... I started at age 4. You teach them to respect the machine at an early age and move on from there.

After you change the pads, try and lube the cables before you replace them

Thanks guys. Iam happy to be apart of things like this. I never raced, I helped on a IMCA stock car. My wifes bother raced 4 wheelers when we first started dating. Then he moved to race cars, My father in law loves atvs, he was the Big push into them. My oldest son who is 17 now started racing go karts at 5. So 3 years ago I sold all of my karting stuff and traded it for some cash and a 650 Baja X Bombider. I haven't rode it for 2 years. Now my plan is too sell it and start buying race parts for the 90 and rebuild the 114cc race motor I bought ith it.
Thanks for the help, I will start looking for parts for the brakes and cables. Shawn
