New to the site and of course, I'm in need of some mechanical advice.

I own a 1993 300 Fourtrax TRX (2wd) and have only had to replace one brake cable in 16 years. Awesome reliability. However, as of late I'm experiencing a loud squeak from the rear upon take off, especially when the front wheels are cut in either direction (thus binding the rear somewhat). I can also apply the rear brake slightly and create the same noise. I've replaced the rear brake shoes to no avail. I'm being told that I need to replace the rear axle bearings to eliminate the noise. Sound logical?......Is that relatively easy to do?......or should it go to the shop? I don't have presses, specialty tools, etc. for the most part. Any advice/comments welcome.

Welcome to the forums. I am a relative newbie to quads, and not really a mechanic but mechanically inclined. I got an old quad and the more I mess with it the more experimental I get in terms of what I will try to do, and the more I do I've found it's not as hard as I've made it out to be in my own mind. It is true, however, that having the right tools is 90% of the battle.

With that said, I can't answer your question, but you should go over and read the post about wheel bearings, and it may give you some perspective.

I don't know where that is. I live near Elizabethtown. I get around to the tracks but I have lived in KY for 19yrs and never really been anywhere but Louisville and Cambellsville.
Tomgodd,
I'm in the Winchester area.
