no..thier isn't anyway to change the gear ratio..well..there is..but..you would have to split the cases.and swap out the internal gears..and it's not worth it..lol...and your tapping noise you hear..is most likely your valves that need adjusting.

I never knew that! So I should usually start in 1st and use super low for climbing hills and pulling things! Is there a way in changing this to make it faster in super low?
i don't think the owners manaul will cover this..but..you will need a filler gauge set..a 10 mm socket or open end wrench a 17mm socket i think is what the flywheel calls for ?..remove the spark plug..remove the slotted inpsection cover ( on the flywheel side ) remove the flyweel slotted cap..remove the ex and intake valve covers..should have a 10 mm bolt on them ?..with the 17 mm socket..turn your crank where your piston is on TDC ( top dead center ) make sure your on the compresson stroke ( turn the flywheel backwards..while watching the intake valve..if it moves..then your on top dead center on the compresson stroke..loosen the intake and ex valve 10 mm nuts..with the filler gauge ( the right spec'd one )..stick it under the round valve bolt..turn it down to where it barely touches the filler gauge..then tighten the 10 mm nut back down..re-check with filler gauge to make sure you didn't over tighten the valve..do the same with the ex valve..also do this when the engine is cold..DO NOT ADJUST WHEN HOT OR WARM !. watch the flywheel's mark..line it up on the outter case line..this is to show you your piston is on TDC.I have the owner's manual. How do I go about and adjusting them?
after 13 or 14 years of working on these..you learn as you go !..feeler gauges can be found at any auto parts store..even wal-mart for that matter.Man you guys got this stuff down! I didn't realize how much work that is. I think I can do it. I would hate to have screwed this up. Where do I get this feeler gauge from?
i got the angled ones from searsIf you can find the feeler gauges with the angle tips it will make things a little easier, but those kind can be hard to find.after 13 or 14 years of working on these..you learn as you go !..feeler gauges can be found at any auto parts store..even wal-mart for that matter.Man you guys got this stuff down! lol..thats why we help out around here..so ppl can learn ! ( not to mention, we know what it's like not having to pay a dealer ) ..good luck.im going to get one of those this weekened and take a look at it. Hopefully this will be the problem.
Thanks a bunch. but I will soon repost if I get stuck anywhere in the process lol
it's not your carb..thats the intake valve you hear..adjust the valves both of them like we said to do..this will solve your '' ticking ''.Alright I just got done checking the actual noise that was making a tapping and clicking noise.... lol it's coming from my carb. every time I give it gas just for the initial start or in gear it does that clicking. I did put my head close to that super hot engine! from reving it numerous times I really think it's coming from the carb. Any idea why?
