Gear Reduction question

1735 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  bogleparsons1
2007 420 4x4. I have a 2" lift and a 2" stretch. I'm wondering what I would need/look into getting to be able to solidly run 30" tires. Blew the seals on my rear end so it needs a rebuild anyway, and I want to do a reduction while it's open. I don't know anything about gear reductions and the science behind it, so please help.

35% would be the best option and the reduction is actually in the engine not in the diff, like you would see in a pickup.

Depends on the tire really, and what you ride in, 30” is pretty well bang on the right size for it where it won’t matter how thick the mud or how aggressive the tire. You could still run 28’s it would just be a bit slow, or you could move up to a 31-32 but then you’d have to worry about the thicker mud and not being able to move the tires. 31” skinny outlaws you’d probably be fine, 32” assassinators youd probably want to move up to a bigger reduction, I know there is a 69 but I’m not sure if there is anything between 35 and 69 available. Personally I’d rather keep the reduction down a little bit and try and add some power to the motor to make up for it just so it’s not like driving a farm tractor between the mud holes lol
