Hello, former nuub to the forum. I have a 2013 honda trx420fm, snorkel, relocated radiator. Former gear reduction back to stock.
My nuetral switch only shows nuetral light in 4th gear to crank it up. Ive removedand set it where in nuetral it goes green then reassemble then its back at 4th again. I am replacing the switch. In previous threads I've mentioned the previous owner sunk this quad. Idk if that could be the issue or not. My question is when I receive the new switch is there a certain degree the nipple has to be like a dizzy on a car for it to read right? The manual says nothing as far as calibration or set direction on page 22-15
Any input helps ?

ok, if you look on the switch ( plastic brown part ), there is the letter N stamped on it, now, look at the tang sitting in the round shaft, notice that the tang has one end of it longer than the other side ?, that long end needs to face that letter N stamped on that brown plastic piece on the switch :).

This is the only thing i see. Sometimes these manuals word stuff crazy
I can tell you right now, not every section will cover what your looking for ?, in other words..you might find that switch under the rear case section ?, who knows ?, but it will be in there..if its listed in the manual ?. but..some things you learn as you go on your own, which I have !. I know for a fact, that letter N is stamped on the switch cover like I said :). if you have too, go through every page, until you SEE that switch being talked about ?, if it's not there ?, then go by what I am saying.

too kinda give you an idea what I am talking about ?, go to partzilla, look for a part..any part mind you, now..you would think they would list it near the part it attaches too...right ?..WRONG !..you will find that part listed on another part of their list..no where near where you thought it would be ?!. same goes for this switch, it may not be listed in one section ?, but it should be in the manual somewhere.

In this manual the GP switch alignment is found in the alternator (rear cover removal/reassembly) section. As shadetree advised ya gotta read the relevant sections in the manual, which means you'll be jumping from section to section to get a complete explanation for many jobs. Its done that way so info does not need to be repeated.

Well, actually the switch alignment is in the correct section, because during a rear cover installation is the only time ya get a chance to deal with it. If yours is out of time, then it is that way because someone wasn't reading the manual when they put that rear cover on. Let us know how it goes...

I tore into it last light and realized the pin on the end of the switch was caved it (squished) so i made my own for test purposes only. I do believe strongly someone had installed the rear crank case cover together with force causing it to fold the black pin down. I cleaned everything up and followed the directions i plugged the switch in to the harness with the case off the quad to test the nuetral light. The nuetral light turns on when the switch is pointed towards N on the case so im hoping that is a good indication that the switch is not bad. Im going to reinstall everything tonight to see if it works. If so im replacing that pin with the correct pin. The temperary pin i have in there now fits real snugg and will slide if you push it with force from your finger. Its a nail trimed to the same length as the original pin. Could that possibly be a permanent pin (nail) I could use vs. buying one?

I could be wrong ?, but I don't think your can just replace the pin on that switch ?, i'll have to look. but from what little memory I got left ?!..lol. I think your stuck with having to buy a whole new switch ?.

I just looked that switch up ( not sure I got the correct model from partzilla..seeing how they have half a dozen trx420 models !..lol ) but I was right, you have to buy the whole switch, the pin in not replaceable !. around 40 bucks from partzilla.

i would not try using a nail in that !. if it falls out of the switch ?, and it will happen !..lol, your looking at ripping the cover back off to re-fix it, not worth it !, just replace the whole switch with a new switch.
