I have a stock 07 Honda GPScape Rubicon. When I start it up the gear indicator just has the two dashes showing like as if it is between gears and the D1, D2, and ESP indicator just blinks. When I put it in forward gear the bike moves just like normal but when I put it in reverse it spits and sputters and acts like it is gonna die, will barely make the bike move. It hasnt been run much just sits in garage with a battery tender on battery waiting for the next snow storm so it can do some plowing. Anybody have an idea where to start looking for problem?

As far as the gear indicator goes, there could be a wire shortage somewhere.follow the wires from the indicator to the battery compartment and see if there's a notch somewhere making the connection bad. Or it could just be going out and you should look in the manual on how to replace it. The reverse deal, how long was the atv running before you put it in reverse?

I had the wheeler running for probably 5 minutes. It takes a few minutes to warm up a bit. But normally I let it warm up with the choke on then let it idle for a few minutes after I push in the choke it runs like a champ.

Take your left tank cover off, and look at your gear position switches. Hose them out with contact cleaner and see if that helps. The reverse sputtering is because one of the sensors doesn't show the bike is in reverse. It's a built in safety measure.

When you put it in reverse, the R has to show up AND the red reverse light must be on. If both are not present you get the sputtering.

Next time you put it in Reverse, wiggle the shifter around and see if you can get both the R and the light, and see if it sputters.

I will try that on my next day off from work just to see if there is any dust or anything in there. I did however go out earlier today and check the ignition fuse i thought maybe that could be the problem. I pulled the fuse and all looked well so I turned the key and everything looked normal. I started the wheeler warmed up as I normally do and plowed snow with it then for about 30 mins with no issues. Really strange happenings whatever it is or was, has got to be something simple, I have never had anything just fix itself before. If it does it again I will be sure to let everyone know what i find out. Thanks again for the replies.
