About to rip into my 1985 250sx. What are the thoughts on gasket sealant on the clutch cover gasket. Is it necessary?

Pod', is it necessary ? No . ------ if you do decide to use any kind of sealant , I would use only HondaBond or YamaBond and a very light coat ---personally I only use it on the clutch cover side to help hold the gasket in place , also if the cover has to be taken off again for some reason , I can usually remove the cover and not damage the gasket

I just put motor oil on paper gaskets before installing them.

Thanks, always used motor oil myself in the past. Good point about about using Hondabond and possibly reusing a gasket.

Only use sealant where the service manual says to, which will be on the head cover for that model. Anywhere else is no good

Thanks Doc. I remember years ago using sealant on valve covers and having little "balls" of silicone everywhere.
