I just recently replaced the petcock on my TRX250EX. After i bolted the petcock to the gas tank i added gas to the tank to see if the petcock leaked. I noticed a gap between the petcock and the tank that is about 1/8 of an inch big. Gas comes out of this gap and im wondering if anyone knows how i could fix this problem.

Yea i took the old petcock put it back on and it is still leaking gas not even sure how the gap happened because a couple days ago it was holding gas fine with the old one. It could be the new washer i used it could be to thick and not allowing it to seal all the way. I will have to take a look at it closer when i get back to work on it later.

The reason i replaced it is because it wasn't rode in over 6 years and i started to clean it up cleaning carb and gas tank. I noticed that gas was not coming from the gas tank and i figured it was the filter that is on the petcock i took the old one out and noticed that the filter and the brass tube was eat down due to the gas sitting in the tank for so long. i was unable to replace just the brass tube i had to buy a whole new petcock.

There is nothing sitting between the petcock and tank?

Might be a silly question, but is the petcock installed the right way up?

Can you also post a link to the add where you purchased it?

Looks to be closer on one side, is there a gasket or something between the steel and plastic?

After looking at the IPB I have to wonder if your bolt gaskets aren’t seated into the tank mounting base. If you’ve mushroomed the gasket then I see you would need to remove and reseat them

is that an after market petcock ? --- if you are tired of messing with it , take 3M-5200 and apply it to the base of the petcock , tighten it up and let it be cocked , let it cure for 24 hours at 70 degrees and forget about it
