After a about 5 minutes of running, one of the 2 main 15 amp fuses blows and everything dies. After replacing the fuse, same thing happens. However, if it idles it doesn't blow. A current meter placed in the line shows 4-5 amps in idle but quickly rises to around 20 amps (or more) when I give it the gas! Battery voltage is climbing and looks like the no load voltage is up around 18 volts in idle. I suspect the regulator is bad. Any thoughts?
I saw some smoke coming from up under the gas tank area once. I can't see the regulator so it must be hard to get to.
Please help.

I seen the exact same thing happen , regulator over charging and blowing the fuse ---the smoke from under the gas tank must becoming from something else melting down as the regulator is on the frame at the right rear tire
