Newbi here and first post....
I have a 03 400ex, i would like to know how to turn the fuel valve to use the res on the machine. I run it now with the switch pointing down.
TIA for any info ......

on the valve arm there it a little triangle. point the triangle to the reserve. And welcome to the fourms.

i think they mean which is reserve

I think on those the reserve setting is the whole way down.With the arrow pointing towards the ground.

Yes, the machine dont have any marking on the plastic, so i do not know what way is normal and what way is Res or Off..
I run it wil the arrow down, is that the Res setting ? what is it when the arrow is pointing to the front of the machine and also pointed up ?

I believe this is how it works.

Arrow down = fuel on

Arrow up = reserve

Arrow pointing to front = fuel off

You might be right, but I thought the arrow always pointed down toward the fuel line for the fuel to be on.

To be sure, he could run it low on fuel and when it runs out, turn it the opposite way and see if it will start and run.

I know for sure that pointing toward the front is off. The more I think about it, the more I think you are right, Billy.

I don't have a 400EX, but I just looked at mine and according to mine, Billy is right. But mine is a 400 Foreman. Here is how it works.

Up = fuel on

Down = reserve

pointing toward rear = off

Yeah thats how most of the honda's are.The Yamaha's work the way you said helmut.

That was probably what I was thinking about, because I have a couple Yamahas, too.

300 4x4 on is up down is reserve rear is off
