I have a 2009 Honda TRX 420 fuel injected. It starts and idles perfectly. Revs good in the garage. When i gun it it takes off thru a couple shifts just fine. Then it starts actling like its running out if fuel. I can feather it to keep running most if the time. Sometimes it just dies and sometimes a back fire. Typically it fires right back up quick. Ive ordered a fuel filter kit. In the meantime i left filter out and installed inline fuel filter, drained tank, added new clean fuel with injectir cleaner additive. Seemed to be slight improvement but then same symptoms back. Any suggestions?

Im new to the ATV world but with that being said im not new to working on vehicles/engines. My guess is that its a ignition coil issue. If its idling and starting fine and running through the first couple gears then i wouldnt think its a fuel issue. I would check to make sure your ignition coil has good connections, putting dielectric grease on those connections is always a good idea. Ive worked on more than one vehicle in the past that the coil would "break up" when under a higher load, it would start, idle and drive perfect even at WOT through first but once into second it would start to act up.

On a side note, making sure your injector electrical connection is fully seated and not dirty isnt a bad idea either.

That sounds like an issue I had with one of my 2013 Ranchers, i put a new fuel pump in it and that seemed to take care of the problem. It was fairly simple to do except for one silly little connection. There's a little green clip that is very stubborn to release, I spent more time trying to get that thing loose than I did installing the new pump. Hope that is all it is, good luck.FF
