Hey everyone.. Is it possible to run just a pipe and no programmer on a FI 420..?? I know they run rich out of the crate to begin with.. I live at high elevation so I do need to run it on the lean side.. I also have a uni filter and 1.5" snorkle.. I know someone that said he gets better performance from a 2" snork and just a pipe than what he got from a 1.5" snork, pipe, and programmer??? Is the old spark plug look test the way to go.. If i'm still running rich after the snork and uni, maybe getting a pipe and running it for a bit, then check it...???? i DONT want to run too lean as that might hurt the engine.. But I dont want to waste $ on programer.. I know the pcIII lets you take away fuel, but for the $ i want it to make a large difference.. Not gonna get one if it wont count!!

The canned tune for my Power Commander with the HMF pipe pulls a lot of fuel out of the engine throughout the band. There is richening as well but it is not significant. I wouldn't hesistate to add the exhaust but honestly the programmers added throttle response is nice on it's own. If it were my quad I would buy the programmer before the exhaust. I am running my stock pipe for now because of HMF's screw up and you can feel a difference at the top end, but the throttle respsonse and low end power are better than it ever was stock.
